We Are Connected

Exhibiting Artists: Ayoola Mudashiru | Adewale Uthman | Gbenga Ajiboye

Date: 10 May 2025 – 31 May, 2025

Nomadic Art Gallery, Lagos

We Are Connected is an exhibition that brings together the work of
three distinguished artists – Ayoola Mudashiru, Adewale Uthman
and Gbenga Ajiboye whose practices, though individually
distinctive, converge on shared themes of togetherness, social
justice, and the documentation of historic moments. Over decades
of creative exploration, these artists have built a profound
connection, both through their mutual recognition of common
themes and their commitment to using art as a medium for
storytelling, activism, and reflection on the human condition.

At its heart, this exhibition celebrates the paradox of unity and
individuality. While the artists’ works are deeply personal and
express unique artistic voices, their shared thematic concerns
highlight a collective consciousness—one that underscores the
universality of human experiences and the power of connection in
fostering creativity. Together, the works explore how bonds
between people, communities, and histories shape our
understanding of the world and inspire creative collaborations that
transcend boundaries.

The themes of togetherness and connection run as a vital thread
through the exhibition, reminding us of the strength found in
relationships and shared humanity. The artists also tackle social
injustice, using their work as a form of resistance and a call for
change, whether addressing systemic inequality, the aftermath of
colonial histories, or the urgent need for collective action. Their art
becomes a witness to history, documenting pivotal moments, which
though specific to time and place, resonate universally, revealing the
interconnectedness of struggles and triumphs across the globe.
We Are Connected is both a celebration and a reminder: that in a
world often marked by division, art has the power to unite, to inspire
empathy, and to remind us that our stories, while unique, are part of
a shared human narrative.
